Wood Circus is an ephemeral interactive structure / furniture installed for creating space to make people gather and rest during the music festival. The pavilion is composed of series of identical forms such as bench, lean bed, and canopy being morphed in between and creating a sequential circular structure which provide unique contrast of artificial timber frame being merge into natural landscape.
As the basis of the construction, 3 pieces of 30x30mm standard section cedar timber rods are screwed to assemble a tripod unit which is one of most primitive and simple self-stand structure. 120 tripod units are arrayed in 360dgree with gradual undulation to accommodate various activities on and under the structure.
This simple assembly system enables it to construct and dismount easily and quickly in anywhere to be reusable. Also size of the structure can be adjustable based on various requirements in different locations and occasions. Throughout the interactive furniture scape, people can gather around bench zone, while lean bed zone invite them to have a short nap. Canopy zone provide a shadow under the eaves to protect against the strong direct sunlight.
The structure aims to provide a large single place, at the same time the space can perceive as multiple places with unique characteristics in each section. The duality of simplicity / complexity controls distances among people and place in between to evoke pleasant spatial quality to share joyful moments.
